The eyes are often referred to as the window to the soul. Therefore, concerns that involve the eyes can be very troubling to the person affected. Xanthelasma is a strongly demarcated deposit of fat underneath the skin. Xanthelasma typically appears on our around the eyes and is often difficult to conceal, especially for men.

Xanthelasma are not harmful; patients choose to have them removed for cosmetic reasons. Fortunately, there are options for removal including surgical excision, non-surgical TCA solution or chemical peels.  TCA peel works by causing an inflammatory process which allows  new collagen production to begin and make the yellow plaques smaller.

  • What is the cause of xanthelasma?

    Xanthelasma is caused by an excess of blood lipids or fats. It can be a symptom of underlying issues. Many Xanthelasma patients also have high cholesterol, but they are possible to get even if your cholesterol levels are normal.

  • Will Xanthelasma go away on its own?

    Xanthelasma are yellow soft or hard plaques made up of cholesterol. They are unlikely to disappear on their own, in fact they typically grow.

  • Is a TCA peel safe in removing Xanthelasma?

    There is a slight risk for post inflammatory hyper-pigmentation which does fade with time. Your nurse can discuss products that can help reduce the pigmentation faster.
