What Is Broadband Light and How Does It Work?
Commonly known as Intense Pulsed Light therapy (IPL) or photofacials, Broadband Light (BBL™) refers to laser treatments that have the ability to treat sun damage, fine facial wrinkles, brown pigmentation and/or scattered blood vessels. BBL™ treatments are incredibly effective while being much more comfortable than other nonsurgical options. Some collagen tightening and remodeling is expected with repeat treatments. IPL laser treatments can be performed on a number of areas including the face, chest, neck, hands and arms.
BBL™ works by emitting a broad spectrum light on the area being treated which penetrates to the deeper tissues. The light is attracted to browns and reds that are present and will lessen the appearance of these. The light will also aid in heating up the collagen which in turn minimizes fine lines. BBL™ is a non-invasive treatment that leaves the surface layer of the skin intact thus allowing patients to experience minimal side effects. Patients can expect to see an improvement in both the colour and texture of their skin.
Aftercare and Recovery
Patients can expect to experience the look and feel of a mild sunburn for approximately 1–2 days after the treatment. This procedure can also be performed during the summer months as long as the patient wears a high SPF sunscreen and avoids getting a tan. Patients will normally require between 3–5 treatments to achieve the greatest overall results, which are scheduled approximately four weeks apart.
